When it comes to creating a lead nurturing campaign, you’ve heard it all. Everyone has something to say about lead generation, and if you’ve followed me over the last few years, you will have noticed I have, too.

I still do.

Only today, I have a different outlook.

(and it’s one that differs to most other people)

You see, it’s no longer about building the biggest list. It may sound good to say you have a list with 10,000… 50,000… 100,000 people in it, but really it’s just a number. Although a larger list “can” bring the big bucks, it also has a much higher cost (plus the churn rate is greater).

And everyone (you included) are part of many lists these days, and it’s usually pretty obvious when you are in an automated funnel versus someone sending you a personal email.

In short, people are fed up.

So although a large list “can” work, a large list is no longer the end game. It used to be. It used to guarantee success. No longer!

These days it’s all about build intimacy with your audience. Whether this is with a list of 100… 1,000… 10,000 it doesn’t really matter. It’s not about the number, rather what you do with these people — that’s right, these leads are PEOPLE and you need to start treating them as such.

When it comes to a lead nurturing campaign that will work in 2018, the keyword is “nurture”. You need to nurture them and not just see them as another lead or number. You cannot just sell to them at all times. You must provide value and quality all the time, because if you don’t, they will not listen to you.

You become part of the background noise, and as such, you’e irrelevant.

Whereas the moment you capture their attention, you become a somebody, and as such, are relevant.
